About Imperial Beach
Imperial Beach is located 20 miles south of San Diego’s downtown and lies on the Mexican border. It is the southwesternmost city in the continental US. Home to the US Open Sandcastle Competition, the sand is beautiful and the beach is mostly quiet and private.
If you are looking for relaxation and to escape the crowds, Imperial Beach is the perfect place. Amenities include a park with picnic tables, volleyball facilities, basketball courts, playground, restrooms and showers. The Imperial Beach Pier is a popular spot for fishing and there is a tackle and bait shop on premises. Just south of Imperial Beach are the Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge, the Tijuana River National Estuarine Sanctuary and the Border Field State Park – which is a truly pristine, untouched beach.
